2012 Casa Petrie Garden

We planted the garden in mid-May and it is looking good!  The seeds have all turned into little plants and the plants we purchased are growing quickly.

One of the big upgrades to the garden is the drip irrigation system.  Last year when we went out of town, we set up a timer and a sprinkler to water and it worked brilliantly at watering the garden.  Mr. Petrie did some research on drip irrigation and thought it would be easy to set up and would help our plants to do even better this year.  The system parts were around $85 and took approximately 4 hours to set up.

My Gothic six year old Miss Petrie drew a picture of a happy vampire on the wall.

The marigolds and sunflowers will offer pops of yellow to the space and attract bees.

The herbs have been placed in pots.  I haven’t yet made pesto, but the basil plants are beginning to bolt (flower), so I know it is time to clip those fragrant leaves.

The lemon balm is Miss Petrie’s plant.  It has such an amazing scent.  We want to make a mint and lemon balm tea with the leaves.

We can see the desert flowering plants from our bedroom window.

The garden is a fun family activity for us.  Check out the garden section of the blog for all things garden related!

I have little holes in my lettuce…so I should have planted a marigold close by!

I really like the pickets used for trellis for the vegetables–very pretty and creative! Your plants look very robust–I bet you will have a fantastic harvest this season.

What a beautiful garden. I love the raised beds. We have been using a drip irrigation system for a couple of seasons now and have been really happy with it. You will love how it helps keep the weeds down. We don’t need to do much weeding once the spring rains stop. It’s great!!
