Homemade Baby Shower Invitations
My good friend is having a girl in June and the playgroup we attend is throwing her a shower. I love giving out paper invitations, so I took on this job. I knew what my friend had chosen as a color scheme for the nursery, so with this in mind I looked for ingredients to make the invitations.
I had spent so much time making the invitations special, I wanted the envelopes to look as finished. Using the same ribbon used on the invitations, I created a horizontal stripe. I have a circular frame stamp and inside the frame I stamped “shower” in pink. I accented the frame stamp by using a fine line of blue around the stamp’s edge.

I started the invitation by stamping a fancy circle in blue ink. I added a cross of the polka dot ribbon. On top of the ribbon, I added another fancy blue circle. On top of the circle I used a foam piece of adhesive to make the “baby” stamp pop. To make the “baby” stamp really stand out, I added two crystal brads.

Lastly, I adhered the butterfly sticker to the card. My friend is a butterfly aficionado and I wanted to add something special for her.

The sheet of butterfly stickers were not uniform in size, so I had some cards with one large butterfly and some with a medium and and a small butterfly.
I always try to use creativity and frugality when I make something, but as we all know, sometimes you spend more than you think when crafting. I try to do a cost analysis of my projects so I can adjust crafting costs in the future.
I made twelve invitations.
1 sheet of butterfly stickers @ $1
12 cards and envelopes + 3 cards for circle punchouts @ $2.25
1 “shower” stamp @$1
Ribbon @ $.10 (I got 25 yards of ribbon for $1!)
I had or borrowed the other stamps and the crystal brads, so those were free.
Total cost was $4.35 or about $.36 per invitation.
To give you some perspective on the cards, I priced out cards I liked at Target.
The baby buggy invitations were $5.99 on sale and contained 12 invitations. So, each invitation was about $.50 each.

The second set I like at Target was $19.99 for 50 invitations (that could double as birth announcements). Each invitation would be about $.40.

I like to really know if my homemade effort was indeed cost effective!
Time was more an investment than money with this project. I think I made a higher-quality invitation than what I could have bought. It was also personalized for my friend and I hope she can keep it in her baby’s keepsake box. I’m also responsible for shower favors and I’ll show them to you very soon.
Thanks to Hooked on Houses for hosting Hooked on Fridays blog party.
They are absolutely gorgeous! Make sure there’s one for your friend to keep and put in the baby book. Beautiful work!

By the way, I love making my own invitations. I just haven’t had the time lately…I love how your are so classic.
And one more thing, I LOVE your blog design. I’m getting tired of mine. I need a change, who designed yours for you?
OK, enough questions, thanks for stopping by!
Well, I have a great shower gift idea for either of the showers coming up. I don’t want to write about it here because you know how sneaky Deszarae and Aja can be!!! We’ll talk soon! You should blog about standing in the freezing cold at 6:00 in the morning to get Miss Thing into pre-school….BTW, I was literally getting in the truck to get Starbucks when Hoy came home. I didn’t mean to leave you hanging. IOU
