A “Welcome Baby” wreath for $5
We at Casa Petrie took up Lindsay’s $5 Challenge. This was exciting and it certainly made me think of creating in a different way. Hope you enjoy our craft.
Ohdeedoh, Apartment Therapy’s nursery site, has a great wreath post. The welcome baby wreath in this post would stand-in for those cheesy signs that say, “It’s a …”.
So, I roped my friend Brianna into doing the challenge with me and off we went to the Dollar Tree. We knew we were looking for wreaths and accessories, but we had to lean down our options.
Here is what we ended up with:

Our DT pickings
I ended up using 1 wreath form, 1 skein of creme colored yarn, 1 package of felt cutouts, 1 bunch of flowers, and 1 roll of ribbon. Total spent: $5 plus tax.

This wreath is for my friend who is having a girl.

I used this ribbon along the edge of the wreath. It reads, "It's a girl".

I cut apart two of the felt cutouts so I could use the butterflies. I had more flowers, but I didn't think the wreath needed more that these three.
Here is where I used some supplies I had at home. I kept home supply use to a minimum, in the spirit of the challenge. I used a tag punch, letter stamps, black ink, and pink and white embroidery thread. The center of the wreath needed something to make it pop.

I suspended these tags using thread. I wanted to hang the tags, but they weren't heavy enough.
This is Brianna’s wreath. I like the color combinations she used.

I’m dying to see what everyone else does for their craft. Have a wonderful Monday!

Oh! I LOVE this! You would have no idea this was made of dollar store stuff. (I actually like yours more than the example one) I love the fuzzy yarn and the words in the middle and the…well I just can’t get over how cute it is!

So cute! I was actually looking for something that had a fuzzy texture to cover my wreath, I never even thought of using that kind of yarn. Great idea, both wreaths are adorable!

Adorable!! What great wreaths! You are right – WAY better than the “it’s a girl” ones they sell at the hospital.
I have been to Dollar Trees in about 4 or 5 different towns now (I was on vacation and of course had to check them out) and I couldn’t believe the different things in each of the stores. Your store had some great stuff!
