Iced Coffee

This is *the* most frugal iced coffee and it is very tasty.  When you are done drinking your hot coffee in the morning, dump the extra coffee into a pitcher in your fridge.  When it’s hot outside and you want a caffeine boost, pour the cooled coffee into a glass, add cream and sugar and [...]

Summer Reading 2

The reading party continues!  I keep finding new authors and series to enjoy.  I joke with my husband that I’m going to get a Ph.D in paranormal literature.  I’ve graded each book with a letter grade. Kresley Cole, Dreams of a Dark Warrior, grade B- Nalini Singh, Play of Passion (fun series, terrible book title),  [...]

Balloons In My Neighborhood

I went out for a quick morning errand the other day and there were balloons flying over my neighborhood.  Albuquerque is the home of the International Balloon Fiesta.  I understand there is a wind pattern that helps the balloons circle Albuquerque, making it an ideal place for this activity. Have a great day.

Crockpot Tortilla Soup

If you’ve read my blog, you know I love to cook, but generally I eyeball most of my ingredients and substitute with ingredients I have on-hand.  I find soups and stews are especially forgiving when it comes to ingredients, and the Crockpot makes everything taste good. Crockpot Tortilla Soup 2 cups pulled rotisserie chicken 4 [...]

Old Navy Grab Bag

I’ve been collecting school clothes for Miss Petrie, who is about to enter kindergarten.  A couple of weeks ago, Old Navy sold large paper bags filled with 8 shirts for $20.  The catch was that you didn’t know what you were getting until you purchased it.  Luckily, we thought we got great stuff!  Take a [...]

3 Summer Squash Harvested

Three big beautiful summer squash were harvested from the garden yesterday.  It’s hard to believe that we have squash when we just planted seeds two months ago.  Nature is amazing. I linked this post to Sidewalk Shoes: Garden Tuesday and An Oregon Cottage: Tuesday Garden Party.

Grilled Pizza #2

It’s been so darn hot the past few weeks that we are trying not to use the oven or stove.  We’ve found the grill to be quite multifunctional.  Last Friday we made green chile, ham, colby jack cheese and green onion pizzas.  The green chile was from last year’s garden (we had grilled the chiles [...]

The Garden Has Veggies!

Our plants are beginning to produce vegetables.  Most are still too green or small to eat, but we’re excited about the prospect of eating our own veggies soon. The squash blossoms are as beautiful as lilies to me. I believe we have 3 rather large squash and they’re almost ready to eat. I’ve had to [...]

Summer Reading

I have found a new source for books- digital books that I can download through my iPhone.  I get them from our public library for 10 days at a time.  Sometimes I have to wait for a book, but when it’s ready, I get it almost instantaneously. I have enjoyed (and given a letter grade [...]

Goodbye Rufus

On Tuesday afternoon we put our beloved dog Rufus to sleep.  He suffered from severe liver failure.  It was a sad day at Casa Petrie.  Rufus was 8 years old. Rufus loved Miss Petrie.  When she was a baby, he’d wait until I wasn’t paying attention and he would lovingly lick her face.  He always [...]
