The Casa Petrie Garden Experiment 2011

Soil, Compost and Seeds Let the gardening begin!  Gardening is one of our favorite family activities and for the past three years we have learned a lot about how to garden in this dry, high desert environment. We began by using the compost we started two years ago.  It has been housed in a large [...]

My Latest Wags+CVS Trip

A new CVS opened up in our neighborhood and they sent fabulous coupons to everyone in the ‘hood.  I also hit a good sale at Walgreens (Wags).  And to make those sales sweeter, I utilized coupons to further reduce my prices. I earned $7 Extra Care Bucks (ECB) to spend at CVS in the next [...]

Miss Petrie Loses Her First Tooth

My girl lost her first tooth this weekend!  It came out during Sunday night dinner.  The  Tooth Fairy gifted her gum, cookies, princess gear, and Hannah Montana and High School Musical things.  She also got ten dimes in the little box where she left her tooth. Enjoy your Wednesday.

Using Coupon Doubling and Tripling

Albertsons doubled (up to $.50) and tripled (up to $.33) coupons this week, so I took the opportunity to stock up on some of their sale items.  These were some of my best deals. Golden Grahams cereal- $.49, originally $3.69 Honey Nut Chex cereal- $.49, originally $4.29 Corn Chex- $.49, originally $3.79 Rice Chex- $.49, [...]

Miss PD Eats a Cupcake

Miss Petrie Deux thoroughly enjoyed a cupcake at a park birthday party today.  Then she dumped a little bottle of very cold water all over herself.  Brr! But at least she was warm in the sun while her outfit dried off. Enjoy your day.

Best Shopping Trip So Far

Last week I had my best shopping trip to date!  I stopped by Albertsons for some of their sale items and happened upon a cart of clearance makeup.  Albertsons regularly has excellent clearance deals.  And they are always super nice about taking my coupons, so I am happy to shop there. Here were my deals: [...]

Stockpiling Strawberries

I was at Walmart today, trying out their price-matching policy (more on that later).  Strawberries were on sale for $1/pound.  That is a great price!  I bought four pounds. I rinsed each batch, cut off the green leaves and split each strawberry in half.  Then Miss Petrie arranged them on a baking sheet so we [...]

Girly Bulletin Boards

Every few months I have to urge to change up a room.  The past few weeks, I have wanted to work on Miss Petrie’s room.  When I finished my class last week, I was ecstatic to work on some bulletin boards for Miss Petrie, my budding artist. The project was super cheap because I already [...]

Books + Exercise = Good

Recently, we tried Audible to see if I might enjoy listening to books while I did mundane tasks like driving or cleaning.  Wow, how much more fun is it to do something boring while listening to something great?? That takes me to the task that I generally dread more than cleaning bathrooms: exercise.  I know, [...]

Tiny Ballerinas

Miss Petrie and her ballet friend get along famously.  At the end of class yesterday, Miss Petrie told me, “Take our picture!”  In the 10 months Miss Petrie has been in ballet, she has improved tremendously.  It probably helps that these two cuties are the only kids in their class most of the time. Have [...]
