Fancy Grilled Cheese

I made my favorite sandwich this weekend.  It’s inspired by a sandwich from a restaurant in Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Grill. The sandwich is mozzarella cheese, pesto, and grilled tomatoes on cracked wheat bread.  It takes the humble grilled cheese sandwich to the next level! Good eating, friends.

New Experience: Week of April 19

I have a confession to make: I am not a breakfast eater.  I know how bad it is to skip that first meal, but I haven’t craved breakfast since I was kid.  However, I know that when I eat breakfast I feel more alert and less hungry for the rest of the day. I truly [...]

New Experience: Week of March 22-Update

Last week I finished Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants.  The book is told from the point of view of an old man remembering his life as a circus veterinarian during the Great Depression.  The end of the book surprised me and helped me appreciate the animal characters in the novel.  But let me warn you [...]

Berries and Lettuce

We’ve been working on our garden for the past few weeks.  I even contacted a landscaper to help us install an itty-bitty plot of grass and fix our sprinkler system.  Ooh, I can’t wait for this yard to come together! Here is one of three new 2.5′ x 5′ boxes.  It has raspberries, two varieties [...]

A Fresh Spring-y Dinner

When I cook, I use what I have in the house.  My dad used to joke that I invented recipes when I cooked.  Usually my invented food is good, but you win some, you lose some, right?  This dinner was a winner! I bought a frozen pie crust. This quiche contained spinach, green onion, ham, [...]

Prepping The Garden

It seems like it might actually warm up now, so we have started to work on our fruit, herb and veggie garden.  Since we have railroad ties where we wanted the garden and the ties seep chemicals into the dirt we decided to build garden boxes. Last weekend we built three more boxes that will [...]

A Fabulous Welcome Gift

Our family friend Doug sent us the most awesome welcome gift in honor of Miss Petrie Deux’s birth.  The day after I got these two pictures in the mail I ran to Hobby Lobby and framed them. The artist of these two pieces is Naul Ojeda. I plan on hanging the two pictures with this [...]

Breakfast Popsicles

Whenever I have leftovers from a smoothie… I make Miss Petrie breakfast popsicles. I use whatever yogurt and fruit I have in the house.  This smoothie had plain yogurt, strawberries, agave syrup and milk.  This is a particularly good kid breakfast in the summer. I hope you are having an excellent week.

New Experience: Week of April 5

This week I taught myself to use the Picnik editing program that comes with our Flickr account.  I usually ask Mr. Petrie to Photoshop pictures for me, but I really needed to be able to do it myself.  Here are the results of my experimentation. What did you learn this week?

April Flowers

I enjoyed having flowers in our bedroom so much after Miss Petrie Deux was born that I decided to give myself a little treat and buy flowers every few weeks.  I had daisies during March, but I neglected to photograph them. It’s amazing how fresh and clean our bedroom feels with a few blooms on [...]
