Happy Halloween

We spent the morning decorating and carving our pumpkins.  Mr. Petrie and little Miss Petrie carved the giant cannibal pumpkin and I hot glued candy corns to the small pumpkin. I found the idea for this adorable owl here.  Have a great Halloween and enjoy the sweet treats!

Baking and a Mirror Update

It has been cold in Albuquerque this past week.  We finally had to turn on our heater and shut off the swamp cooler, but to supplement the heat I’ve been using the oven. These made from scratch banana muffins are mini-sized.  They are a good snack or breakfast supplement.  Well, of course, they also taste [...]

Hot Soup for a Chilly Night

Thanks to Modern Country for hosting this fun foodie linky party! On Saturday we made potato soup in the crockpot.  I was low on some of the ingredients, so I pieced together a couple of recipes.  Due to the magic of the crockpot, the soup was delicious.  I crumpled bacon, shredded cheese, and chopped green [...]

Yee-haw! Miss Petrie’s Halloween Costume

We dressed up Miss Petrie in her Halloween costume and let her show off for us at the park while we took pictures.  We had a photo card made from some of the pictures and have sent them off to our far-flung family. If you are a Casa Petrie reader, you know of Miss Petrie’s [...]

Our Girls

A friend had given me a flip frame, which is great to display photos.  I wasn’t super crazy about the iris cutout, so I finally covered it up with something I think looks more Casa Petrie. Before: I used a vintage-looking paper as the background.  For an extra bit of bling, I added buttons to [...]

A Spooky Birthday Card

I made a Halloween-inspired birthday card.  I started with a card I had and covered up all the nonscary stuff. I used orange construction paper and a cool black scroll to cover up the fruity goodness. I’m still working on making the letters straight.  I like the envelope to look special, so I used a [...]

Cozy Fall Entertainment

Fun!  A surprise recipe linky party at The Shabby Chic Cottage.  Thanks for visiting. I volunteered at Miss Petrie’s preschool and was responsible for taking the snacks.  I took mini banana muffins, apple slices and chocolate milk.  Guess what kids ate the least of?  Hehe.  Of course I had a bag of sliced apples left [...]

The Garage Peacock

Thanks to Tales from Bloggeritaville for hosting Thrifty Thursday. We went to a friend’s garage sale and found this peacock stained glass.  It was cracked in quite a few places, but at $5, I thought I could use the magical glue gun to give the cracks some stability. We have two windows in the garage [...]

Comfort Food: Risotto

On Friday night, I wanted something tasty, rich and comforting.  I made shrimp, mushroom, and onion risotto.  It takes a long time to make (about an hour and 20 minutes), but it is so filled with taste that it’s worth the time. A splash of dry white wine and some heavy cream and parmesan gave [...]

Coupons…Bleh

Over the past couple of days I gathered coupons from the past few weeks of newspapers.  I clipped the coupons for food we certainly would eat.  I made a menu based on the coupons.  All of this took me a couple of hours.  I got to the store and carefully looked for the coupon brands. [...]
