Before, the kitchen looked like this:

It was time for a new ‘do. I was resorting to the ubiquitous ponytail daily and it was adding to my frump factor in a big way.

The last time I got my hair cut was back in November. I took Miss PD with me and bribed her with lollipops while the stylist earned her money chopping back my crazy mane.

I had a coupon for the haircut and style. It was quite reasonable at $20. The stylist listened to my directions exactly, which made me so happy!

Have a good day.

One of the easiest ways to use coupons is to look out for “peelies” when you are at the store. When a product is on sale, other products in the brand are also often on sale, so you can cash in on some spectacular savings. Here’s an example of a “peelie” deal I got this week.

This “peelie” coupon deal was buy two bottles of BBQ sauce, get $2 off a canister of lemonade. The BBQ sauce was on sale for $1/bottle and the lemonade was on sale for $2.50. After the coupon, I paid $0.50 for the lemonade. Score!

Total price: $2.50 for two bottles of BBQ sauce and a canister of lemonade.

We’ll enjoy lemonade over the summer and the BBQ sauce is so useful: put it on chicken, pork, make BBQ chicken pizza. Yummy.

Have a great weekend.

When I get a great deal on food, I stock up. In January, I stocked up on chocolate chips ($0.87/bag, regular price is $3). In April, I got a great deal on salad dressing ($1/bottle, regular price is $4). This afternoon my friend called and told me she found Boboli wheat pizza crusts for $1/each (regular price $4/each). She offered me a couple and I told her I would bring her some food from my stockpile. I took my friend a bag of chocolate chips and a bottle of Ranch dressing.

I had read that some couponers/frugalistas engage in food trading, but I hadn’t done this before. Win-win! I think I could easily do food trading with veggies from our garden this coming summer and fall. Each year we have some super producing crop (last year it was squash) and although we make a heroic effort to eat it all, it can become tedious towards the end of the season.

Have a great day.

I think because I am around the girls all the time, I don’t always notice when they say something funny. But these conversations made me laugh.

We were playing beauty parlor and the girls were giving me a massage. Miss Petrie Deux gets annoyed and hits my back and yells, “Mean!” Miss Petrie chastises her, “Sister! That’s the worst part of the massage!” Yeah, I hate it when the masseuse hits your back and tells you you’re mean.

When there’s a food she doesn’t like, Miss PD tells us it’s “spicy”. She really says “picy” and waves her hand in front of her mouth. Picy foods can include salad, rice and soup.

She also tells us some food is “yuck-o”. Perhaps this is the Rachael Ray equivalent of yum-o?

We went to the post office yesterday and brown seed pods littered the grass outside the building. Miss PD said, “Watch out! Poo-poo!” While we were waiting in line, she kept saying really loudly, “Guys, watch out! Poo-poo!” She said it over and over. I assured her it wasn’t poo-poo, but she loudly insisted it was.

We’ve been listening to a Harry Potter audiobook in the car. Miss PD calls it “Happy Potter”.

I’m sad Miss Petrie finally stopped saying “mazagine” in place of magazine.

I hope your week is going well.

I bought 2 dozen eggs, 6 pounds of butter and 10 bricks of cream cheese. Next week when ham is deeply discounted, I will buy ham.

Butter freezes well, but I don’t recommend that you freeze the cream cheese. It gets hard and crumbly. The eggs will keep for a couple of weeks and our family can enjoy quiche, french toast and scrambled eggs.

I hope you are having a good week!

We had our friends come over for a playdate and I thought it would be fun to have Miss Petrie and her friend decorate mini cupcakes. Over the past few months I have picked up cake and frosting when they are $1 or less, so I have a good stockpile of baking ingredients. Each girl decorated one tray of mini cupcakes. I put out sprinkles, jelly beans and M&Ms and put strawberry frosting in cake decorating tubes.

I had enough cake batter to make a small cake as well, then used that cake to make cake balls. I would show you a picture, but they were so good they didn’t even get photographed! I have seen yummy recipes for cake balls of all kinds of varieties and I’ll have to share them next time I make them.

Enjoy your day.
