Recycling Pavers and Teacher Gifts

Miss Petrie’s school needed pavers for a small walkway and we had some.  They are concrete and heavy!  I moved about 100 of them this morning so a school employee could take them.  They’ve been sitting in our front yard for a couple of years, so it works well for Miss Petrie’s school to get [...]

CVS Deals

I did some good shopping at CVS Drugstore this week.  Many of the coupon divas suggest shopping at drugstores for food items to take advantage of their door buster deals.  I have found some great deals, but I have not been able to zero out my bill to make everything free…yet.  It’s a system and [...]

Miss Petrie Deux’s Birthday Quilt

My mother-in-law, G, made Miss PD a gorgeous quilt for her first birthday.  The girls will share a room in the near future and I want to use this as decorating inspiration. G said that the creme and black butterfly fabric is from Hobby Lobby.  I’d love to make some curtains with that fabric.  Isn’t [...]

Cookie Party Favors

For Miss Petrie Deux and my dad’s birthday party, I made chocolate chip walnut cookies as party favors.  I spent a very cold afternoon baking a mountain of cookies.  I baked over 100 cookies. I wrapped two cookies in parchment paper, then tied the package with jute string and a tag stamped with “Celebrate the [...]

A New Scarf

My mother-in-law knitted me this lovely scarf for Christmas.  It is hard to tell from the photo, but the main color of the scarf is taupe and it has a darker brown crocheted edge.  The scarf is really long and varies in width.  I know I will enjoy this gift for many years to come. [...]

Gift Bag Re-Purposing

Every frugal person has an area of frugality that sort of veers into cheapness.  Mine is gift wrapping.  I save every gift bag, unwrinkled tissue paper, and ribbon.  I’ve even been known to keep cards and re-make them into post cards or gift decorations.  I think I learned some of these habits from all the [...]

Hook ‘Em Horns

My brother sent the girls matching outfits last week.  UT is his alma mater.  Mr. Petrie and I hope the girls want to go to our alma mater, St. John’s College, but UT would be good, too! Thanks for the thoughtful gift, Brother.  Miss Petrie has already requested a campus visit “to the school my [...]

A Fabulous Welcome Gift

Our family friend Doug sent us the most awesome welcome gift in honor of Miss Petrie Deux’s birth.  The day after I got these two pictures in the mail I ran to Hobby Lobby and framed them. The artist of these two pieces is Naul Ojeda. I plan on hanging the two pictures with this [...]

Helping Me Feel a Little More Human

We have lots of these all over the house: Flowers and candles make the house seem fresh and smell good and a new pair of Dansko clogs help me move around more comfortably. Have a splendid day.

Sweet Knitted Gift

My dad has a longtime co-worker and she sent the sweetest gift to Miss Petrie Deux.  The sweater and hat are so soft and the color is a perfect shade of blush pink.  A blanket was also included with the set. I love handmade gifts!
