Project Procrastinator No More-The Front Yard

May13

Thanks to The Inspired Room for hosting the Project Procrastinator Party!

For months, I have been avoiding working on the front yard.  The junipers are huge (some are higher than the roof line) and there are about 20 of them.  Enjoy the yard in its improved state.

The pressure to finish this project was high, but it felt so good to get most of it done. I’m going to try to keep it up by working on it a little bit each day.

Project Procrastinators Party: The Before Photos

May3

Our house was built in the 1980s when apparently shrubbery was quite en vogue.  And not just any kind of shrubbery, but the kind of shrubbery that gives you watery eyes, hives, and itchy skin: juniper.  Our yard is a mecca of juniper bushes big and small, but mostly big.  And overgrown.

I have been putting off shaping these plants because I work so slowly!  But I have a plan.  I will trim one bush every day until the yard is done.  So far, I have done five.  Each bush takes about 45 minutes to complete, from getting out the equipment to cleaning up the trimmings.  I’m sure my neighbors are wondering when I’ll finish this project.

In addition to cleaning up the shrubs, I need to do some weeding and replace two plants that died over the winter.

On May 14th, I’ll post “after” pictures of my yard.  I’d love to hear your comments on how to improve my juniper jungle!
