Shadow Box Flowers

June20

Thanks to How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday.

I was just reading a blog post about having your wedding flowers preserved and placed in a shadow box…for $800!  Ouch.  Now the flowers did look beautiful, but mine look pretty darn good and I did it for around $5.  I bought flower preservation spray at a craft store.  I sprayed my bouquet with it and let the bouquet dry hanging upside down.  You let the flowers dry for a few days and they are ready to be hot glued into a shadow box.  My bouquet contained red, yellow, and of course, pink roses!

I think a display of meaningful flowers preserved in shadow boxes would be very charming.  And for those of you wondering, these flowers have held up for 8 years!

Have a relaxing and very pink Saturday!

Closet Organizing with a Touch of Pink

May23

Thanks to How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday.

We have made an effort here at Casa Petrie to use our closet space well.  I read lots of small home (usually small is considered under 2,000 square feet) books to get storage and organization ideas.  These books point out two important points about closets: 1) if you add a second bar to your closet, you double your closet real estate, and 2) use that darn vertical space!!  Well, we could do that without going into debt for California Closets.

This is our coat closet.  We added wire organizers to increase our kitchen storage.

One night a crash woke us.  Our master bedroom closet had one very long and much-abused bar holding up all of our clothes.  The bar cracked in half and we decided to re-do the closet.

We added a second bar and the top of the closet is used for out-of-season shoes and hats.

In Miss Petrie’s room, we decided to forego a dresser and store her folded clothes in pink wire cubbies from Target.  I also use a combination of clear boxes and baskets to help organize her toys and accesories.

At the top of her closet, I’ve used containers to corral an assortment of stuff we need for specific occasions, but not daily.  The very top of the closet has blankets.  They go right up to the ceiling.

On the back of Miss Petrie’s door, I use a shoe organizer for her shoes.  I don’t think shoe organizers are so great for most adults because they don’t store many pairs of shoes, but for a child, it’s the perfect size since you can usually store one pair in one pocket.

I feel much happier knowing we use the space available to us as effectively as we can.  Have a great weekend and enjoy all the other Pink Saturday posts!

It’s a Girl!

May8

We received wonderful news last week: Mr. Petrie’s sister is having a baby girl!  We wanted to send a celebratory package, so we made a couple of handmade gifts.  Mr. Petrie knitted this adorable pink hat.  Isn’t he amazing?

I made a card with some cool new crafting supplies.  My friend Denise gave me a fabulous Martha Stewart pink glitter and glue kit.  The glue pen is amazingly fine.  It was almost like writing with a real pen.  I recently bought vintage inspired paper at Michael’s.  I think it’s fancy, but whimsical paired with the pink glitter.  The chipboard frame is from the Dollar Tree and adds a little extra dimension to the card.

Pink hats and glitter, what could be more Pink Saturday?  Enjoy the other pink posts!

A Pinkalicious Child’s Room

April24

Thanks to How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday.

Don’t forget to sign up for our Casa Petrie giveaway for some fun house and crafty stuff!

Little Miss Petrie’s nursery was yellow with sparse white and crimson accents.  But when we moved her to her big girl room, we had to agree that she would love a pink room. We have lots of chocolate brown throughout our house, so I used this color to ground her room.  Enjoy the tour of the most pinkalicious room in our home. ;)
