The Garage Peacock

October14

Thanks to Tales from Bloggeritaville for hosting Thrifty Thursday.

We went to a friend’s garage sale and found this peacock stained glass.  It was cracked in quite a few places, but at $5, I thought I could use the magical glue gun to give the cracks some stability.

We have two windows in the garage that I have covered with white curtains, but I think the peacock would dress up this area a bit.  I’ll set him in front of the curtains.

Have a thrifty day.

Thrifty School Clothes

July22

Have a great time checking out the posts at Bloggeritaville’s Thrifty Thursday.

My little Miss Petrie had a big growth spurt in the past few weeks.  She jumped 1 1/2 shoe sizes and is squarely in a size 3T now.  She’s set to start preschool next month and I’ve been picking up clothes to get her through the fall and winter (unless she has another growth spurt).  I shopped at a great second-hand store called Other Mothers.  Everything is clean and in good condition; some of the clothes are truly in almost new condition.

The pink velvet jumper is from last year and is the Gap brand.  I really wanted to buy it for Miss Petrie last year, but I didn’t want to spend Gap prices, even on sale.  It was $4.  The olive green cardigan has a matching prairie skirt underneath.

I picked the faux necklace shirt not because I love it, but I knew Miss Petrie would looooovvveee it!  She does.  She was quite upset that I told her she had to wait until it got colder to wear it.  The overalls and jeans were $.25 each.  I also picked up two pairs of cords that were the same price.

I spent less than $50 and I was able to buy several outfits.  I didn’t even show you all of the clothes!

Have a thrifty Thursday!

The Kindness of Friends

July1

My friend Denise has two girls.  Her newest girl is just a few months old.  Denise offered me several brand new baby girl outfits to “re-gift or whatever”.  Isn’t that nice?

So, I didn’t get these at a store, but they are second-hand!  ;)

Good Stuff at Goodwill

June10

I went to Goodwill this past weekend.  There was tons of merchandise (probably from garage sales).  Here’s the loot.

These silver platters in leaf shapes were $5 total.  One platter still had the original tags on it.  The largest platter is about 13 inches long.

The onesie ($.99) and Strawberry Shortcake lunch bag ($1.99) were overstock from Target.  Both had Target tags on them.  I’m going to use the onesie for a friend that is having a boy.

I love the shape of this green bowl.  It reminds me of a bullet planter, but smaller and much, much cheaper.  It was $1.99.  I’m thinking about creating a succulent garden in it.

A real bullet planter is $132 at Design Within Reach…on sale!

Good deals to all!  Have a great time checking out the posts at Homebody Holly’s Thrift Store Thursday and Bloggeritaville’s Thrifty Thursday.

More GW Deals + Some Organizing

May20

In my effort to shop only when I am looking for something specific, I went to Goodwill looking for a basket.  Thrift stores have the best deals on baskets.  I have never seen one for more than about $7 and that was for a big, intricate basket.  Of course, then I saw a few other cute things I couldn’t pass up…

This brand new toddler dress with tags was marked $14.97. I paid $2.50.

Miss Petrie found this painted tile and easel with Portugal written on the bottom. It was $.59.

I reorganized Mr. Petrie's yarn using my new basket. Much better than Albertson's bags "organizing" his yarn.

Sushi and Tools

May13

I may be shunned for the following statement, but I’m attempting to stay out of the thrift stores unless I am looking for something specific.  I have good reasons for abstaining, such as no room for more stuff!  However, I did sneak in a recreational trip to the Goodwill and I found a couple of deals.  ;)

This toy tool set was brand new and Miss Petrie has played with it for days now. Can't beat $3.99 for a new toy.

A Thrifty TV Buffet and a Giveaway

April22

Don’t forget to leave a comment on this post to sign up for our Casa Petrie giveaway!

When we moved into our home, we brought with us a faux-pine Walmart tv cabinet.  It did the job, but was so wrong for the design direction we were headed.  I was very inspired by the sideboards/buffets designers were using for entertainment centers, but I couldn’t find one that I thought was a reasonable price.  At an “antique mall” I found this beauty.  The price was originally $200, but we paid $100.  It is so sturdy and holds so much stuff (we actually keep all our non-daily kitchen appliances in there).

A Thrift Store Shopping Spree

April15

Thanks to Homebody Holly for hosting Thrift Store Thursday and Bloggeritaville for hosting Thrifty Thursday.

I did quite a bit of thrift store shopping this week.  I had $3 off of $10 coupons for both Savers and Thrift Town.  I know, I’m such a big spender!

At Savers-

I got this cloche/baked goods cover for $2.99.

I had planned on using these animals for an Easter egg hunt, but now I think I might use them for crafting.  These were a little more expensive than I wanted to pay, but much cheaper than something similar at Target.

3446628700_e6cd7c7588

My dad went to the University of Michigan.  I think this tissue paper will make his Father’s Day gift look really wolverine-ish.  ;)

3445815315_7044f2bd96

Miss Petrie has been really into buying and selling and exchanging money.  When it’s my turn to sell her something she always tells me my price is “‘spensive!!”.  This money drawer had lots of bills and coins in very good condition.

3445813731_a765322793

At Thrift Town-

I got an egg wreath!  Woo hoo!!  I’ll fancy it up for Spring next year by adding a bird over the missing paint.

3446628052_3e507e0707

I’m trying to hold off on buying Miss Petrie clothes, but little dresses are so cute on her.

3446627422_530bbe33a0

These fairy dolls were in beautiful condition.  The best thing we found at Thrift Town was Dora the Explora’s backpack.  Miss Petrie was enchanted by the map attached to the backpack.  It was a total deal at $.99.

3445809443_362f08d442

I got this iridescent shredded paper for gift bags I’ll be making for my friend’s baby shower.  I do free-hand embroidery and I thought this embroidering contraption would help keep my fabric steady.

3445810689_511517abe7

I spent less than $20 on my spending spree.  On my next few outings, I’ll be on the lookout for a big silver tray to turn into a message board and a big frame to make into an accessories holder.

Happy hunting!

Almost as Cheap as the Library

April8

We were at Savers this week.  They had two huge carts of brand new books.  I imagine the books were from Costco or Sam’s Club.  I’m always looking for books to give as gifts and I hit the jackpot with children’s books.

These beautiful hardback books were $.69 each and buy 4 get the 5th free!  I got 7 books for $4.23!

All Thrifting Leads to Goodwill

April1

Welcome fellow thrifters!  I’m so excited to show you my second-hand deals.  I didn’t purchase everything this past week, because that would be not so frugal, but I did purchase these items recently.  Thanks to Holly for hosting this fun Thursday party. :)

Enjoy my thrifty finds:

I'm pretty sure this is my favorite Goodwill purchase ever. I got this white-noise maker for $1.99 and it keeps my child sleeping. I love it!

When I saw this old-school desk, it reminded me of every elementary school class I had. The industrial green paint is the best part of the desk.

When I picked up the books this week I noticed Goodwill didn’t have very much overstock from Target.  I guess it comes in cycles, because there was a lot of overstock after Christmas.
